This recall involves APC 7 and 8 series SurgeArrest surge protectors manufactured before 2003. The model and serial numbers are located on a label on the bottom of the surge protector. The two numbers that follow the first letter or letters in the serial number sequence indicate the year of manufacture. The unit is included in the recall if the numbers are 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 00, 01 or 02. APC and the words Personal, Professional, Performance or Network are printed on the surge protectors. The following model numbers are included in this recall.

Approximately 100,000 Lithium-Ion Batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell Notebook Computers have been recalled. Battery cells we manufactured by Sony Energy Devices Corporation, of Japan. There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Two consumers experienced minor burns.

Recently, Sony became aware of a potential issue affecting the following notebook PC models: VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series, VGN-TZ2000 series. The issue involves a small number of units which may overheat due to a wiring problem. Sony has initiated a voluntary program to perform a free inspection and, if necessary, a repair to ensure these units meet our high quality standards.

Although most recent notebook recalls have been due to the overheating of the notebook's lithium-ion batteries, the Sony recall is due to "irregularly positioned wires near the computer's hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge [that] can cause a short circuit and overheating," the CPSC said. "This poses a burn hazard to consumers."

Fujitsu is voluntarily participating in a battery recall program announced by Sony Corporation and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on October 23, 2006, under which all affected users will receive replacement batteries and the affected batteries must be returned to Fujitsu, all at Fujitsu's expense. Some of the Sony-supplied batteries used in Fujitsu notebook computers manufactured between June 2005 and October 2006 that were sold in the United States qualify for the program, and additionally Fujitsu will replace certain affected batteries that may have been sold in Canada. Collectively, the replacement of affected batteries in the United States and Canada is called the Fujitsu Battery Exchange Program.

Toshiba Corp. is recalling 340,000 laptop batteries made by Sony Corp. because of problems with recharging them, the latest in a string of embarrassing defects and production glitches for Sony. The recall affects 100,000 batteries for laptops sold in the United States, 45,000 in Japan, and the remainder in other parts of the world, Toshiba spokesman Keisuke Omori said yesterday, declining to quantify the number of problems reported by customers. The defect is not directly related to the problem behind last month's recall of Sony laptop batteries by Dell Inc. and Apple Computer Inc., which cited concerns the batteries could overheat and catch fire.

Because of that SlySoft has released new versions from AnyDVD, CloneCD, CloneDVD and Virtual CloneDrive, which all use ElbyCDIO. These releases aren't currently made official, but they are freely downloadable from SlySoft.
